Elvis is a sweet, gentle boy who has spent his entire life outside in the backyard. Then during the high heat of the summer, his owner abandoned him and his basset hound mix yard mate. A kind neighbor took care of the the pair until finally animal control was called and Elvis found himself on death row. Elvis's sweet nature had earned him some fans though and they called rescue. For the first time in his life, Elvis is doing the job a mastiff is born to do... holding down a couch! Because he spent his entire life in the backyard, he is still getting used to experiencing new things. Sometime in the past, Elvis was not treated well and possibly even beaten. He tries very hard to do what you are asking of him and will curl into a ball and shake if he can't. His foster mom is working on building his confidence with positive training and kind words and he is turning into a happy wiggle butt who wants to be a close to her as possible at all times. See.... Elvis has never had the chance to have his "person"... that one individual in his life that he could love and watch over. Are you that lucky soul? Elvis shares a foster home with 3 cats that is friendly with and does not chase. His history proves his gets along with smaller dogs and will be tested with larger dogs as he gets more comfortable. He is HW+.
He is being treated using the slow kill method which amounts to monthly preventative until he tests negative for them.
This dog is currently in Louisiana, where they are overwhelmed with mastiffs needing rescue. We are partnered with them to bring dogs up monthly so they have the room to continue to rescue the many more needing help. Depending on when you apply (and if approved) for the dog, it may be 1-4 weeks until you meet them.CONTACT: pegbenoit@yahoo.com
