Brief description: The story is about a young voyager named Atlas. Atlas is a well-educated boy, who learned several languages with his previous owners who were Veterans. Unfortunately, his devoted family fell on some hard times and had to make the tough decision to allow their sidekick the opportunity to spread his paws and find a new family that could give him the life he deserves. While being in foster care, Atlas has gone on many walks and visits to the local Pet store. He is always on his best behavior and has meet new dogs & puppies without issue. He is introduced to many smiling faces who just want to sit on the floor and give him lovins… which absolutely delights him. A true social butterfly who just wants to make you smile. Likes: Sunrises… he's an early riser who wants to get out of his crate by 7AM. He loves to play with his Kong Jolly ball, go on walks, give, and receive hugs & kisses, and check out the beautiful countryside on his car rides. He also loves his naps! Dislikes: Being left alone he'll sing a sad song until you return Personality: he's a class clown, family dog, old soul, athlete, independent thinker, and a wannabe bodyguard. He has the potential to be a Velcro dog so if you need a shadow, he is your boy. Temperament: eager to please, respectful, mellow, goes with the flow, curious, counter sniffer (will not take food unless given) not a big snacker (cares too much about his stellar figure) and at times thinks he’s a lap dog and snores loudly. Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: Cat curious, older kids would be fine, sometimes he doesn't know his strength or pay attention. Challenges: Taking meds with food, guaranteed to find the pill stuck in any treat he is given. Gets excited and ready to play when he sees cats or small animals but easy to correct on leash. He does get some zoomies while on leash but do find that if he has the freedom to be off-leach in a fenced-in-area a couple of times a day this behavior goes away. Housetrained: yes Crate trained: yes, just point and say bed. Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)? No, but would be nice to have for playing with him and if you don’t have the time to be out there for bathroom breaks. (He takes forever, I mean forever!) Walks well on a leash: Yes, will stop and sit on lead. Any Medical issues? Atlas was diagnosed with Lyme disease but received a full month of medications. He will only need to receive monthly preventatives going forward. Veterinarian may recommend a Lyme Quant C Test to verify the antibody levels to make sure the treatment was effective after 6 months. He also had some masses removed before coming into rescue, that the owner said was due to a male dog attacking him. What would be the best kind of home? Atlas just wants a family to call his own who will give him lots of kisses and snuggles.
