AMBER IS LOCATED IN ELLICOTT CITY, MD.

 

Amber is a ball of curiosity. She loves people and dogs. She has a high prey drive and cats are not safe around her. She is quick and active sometimes, but most of the time she likes to chew a bone and lie by your feet. Given a chance she would like to curl up on you. Amber loves to go for walks, meet new people, and fetch sticks and balls. She loves to play tug- of -war with her foster family. She is low maintenance. She is easy to train and is food motivated. 

Like : Amber loves to lie down next to you and cuddle . She does like chew toys, sticks and tennis balls. She  is happy to just lie around inside the house or outside in the yard. She  does gets his zoomies and enjoys running around with her foster brother. 

Dislikes :  She doesn't like the crate. She will go in if you ask her but will get out easy, a master at breaking out of the crate. She doesn't like to be alone.

Personality: Amber  is super friendly and low maintenance. She enjoys the company of people and dogs. She is very curious and observant, you can actually see her thinking. . She loves to walk and explore the world with her family. She does not run away and stays close to her family.  She is a very smart and a quick learner. She is a very good listener and responds to “no” very well. She is super easy to love. She has a high prey drive and will chase cats. Amber is only 90lbs. She has all the characteristics of a Mastiff only a smaller size. 

Temperament: She calm and chill. Low maintenance and learns house rules fast. Will wait patiently for food or toy or pets. No jumping, whining or barking for attention. Very easy going. 

Energy level: She is low energy most of the time. Will walk a mile and will chase a ball or stick. Will lie around most of the time.

Favorite activities : She loves to run around and play with her foster brother. She does like to chew on toys. She likes her walks. She likes her training sessions (she gets hot dogs). 

Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6) ? : She is good with kids and dogs. She is learning to live with cats and has had good nose to nose interaction with household cat.  

Not good with :  Amber has a high prey drive, but is coexisting with a cat without issue.

House-trained: Yes

Crate trained : Yes, but will get out in the first 10 mins. 

Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and or invisible fence)?: A fenced yard would be nice for Amber but not necessary. She likes to lie outside for long periods of time and likes to smell the  garden and everything in it. 

Walks well on a leash?: Yes. If she sees a dog on her walk he will try to walk up to say hi, she is learning that not everyone likes to say hi. She is  a very good listener and a simple “ leave it, not today” works.

Challenges:  N o real challenges.

Any medical issues?: None that we know of.

What would be the best kind of home?: Amber is a relaxed, low key, low maintenance  dog. She would be happy with a family that has another dog, can take her on walks and doesn't have cats.

 

Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy:

Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include, but are not limited to: pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed.

Our rescue policy requires the following:

  • Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina.

  • We will not adopt a giant breed dog to homes where the dog will have access to highly varnished hardwood steps inside the home. Any inside steps to which the dog(s) have access, must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit.

  • Methods or devices using pain or force on the dog to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior is prohibited.

  • Applications for giant breed dogs must be submitted by the property owner.

  • Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption.

  • Homes with children should have a fenced yard.

  • Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Veterinary records will be checked.

  • All references must be checked before any visitation of the dog is permitted at the foster home.

  • All family members must be present during the home visit to the applicant's home.

  • Any dog(s) in the applicant's home must have an introductory meeting with the rescue dog being considered, before any adoption can be completed.

  • Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption. Exceptions to this policy can be found on the Adoptable Dog Page.

Mastiffs To Mutts Rescue reserves the right to approve or deny any adoption that occurs through this organization without disclosure.  We reserve the right to make exceptions for special circumstances.
