Great Dane (short coat) : : Female : : Young : : Large Learn more about the Great Dane.
Hazel is a beautiful black & white female Great Dane who came from a neglect background and takes some time to become comfortable in a new environment. Likes: Chew bones, treats, couch cuddles, ear scratching, playing with other doggos after she gets to know them, sleeping with you in bed, pets & scratches, leaning against you, being outside, and playing with a little blanket. Dislikes: Loud noises, quick movements, indoor kennel, getting her nails clipped and her ears cleaned. Personality: Hazel is a bit of a scaredy-cat who is shy at first, likes to frequent her safe spot, is playful, friendly, curious & goofy when she acclimates to her surroundings, and likes to bark at all moving things out the window. Temperament: She is curious but cautious with people (prefers men over women), nervous with new dogs at first but accepts them more quickly than people. Energy level: Hazel is either a couch potato or total zoomies - not too much in between. Favorite activities: Going for a walk, car rides, playing with dog friends, bone chewing, slobbering on you. Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: She does not even acknowledge cats. Good with dogs after proper introductions. Good with kids, just a little unaware of her size. Not good with: (Cats? Dogs? Strangers? Men? Kids?) She does best with men, takes a while to warm up to women. Slow introductions to new dogs. Housetrained: Yes with going outside approximately every 4 - 5 hours during the day and does well overnight. Remove access to water after last potty break before bed. Crate trained: She has past crate trauma, so crate was not used at foster house. Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)? Yes - she enjoys free roam in fenced yard. Walks well on a leash? Walks well on leash with reminders to be easy on pulling. Challenges: Nail clipping and ear cleaning, Any Medical issues? None currently What would be the best kind of home? Hazel would love a larger family with multiple people for her to choose who she wants to hang out with, another large dog friend to rough house & live with, an adult male in the home, and most importantly an understanding and patient family who will give her the time she needs to learn that she is in a safe place.
