ZENA IS LOCATED IN BUTLER, PA. Likes: She loves cuddling, getting pets, giving kisses, elk antlers, treat dispensing toys, kongs and playing with her K9 foster siblings. Dislikes: She is not a fan of sudden movements that she views as threatening. Personality: Zena was very timid at first but her personality is really coming out and she is very playful and inquisitive and appears to be a smart girl. Temperament: She is very sweet and loving. Even though she still has some fears, she has never shown any type of aggression. Energy level: She can go from couch potato to full on play mode with the other dogs in her foster home. Favorite activities: Wrestling matches & chasing games (with her K9 foster siblings) are high on Zena’s list of fun things to do, indoors or out. Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: It is unknown how she views cats and other small animals, but she loves well-trained kids and slept with children from 2-9 years old in her former home. Not good with: When a stranger approaches she may give an initial bark but quickly warms up to friendly overtures. Housetrained: This is a work in progress, but she is well on her way as long as she is taken out often! Crate trained: Because of her initial fears, crate training is progressing slowly. At this point she will go in a crate with another dog or even alone with the door remaining open. She can presently be left for short periods of time with another dog in a properly puppy-proofed area. Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)? A fenced yard is recommended, but is not absolutely necessary if she is on a long lead. Zena will usually follow the lead of the other dogs to come in but with some residual fears she could be difficult to catch if loose, so free roaming is not recommended at this point. Walks well on a leash? Zena was never on a leash until she came into foster care. Her progress has been exceptional when encouraged, not forced. She has gone to the vet and to a microchip clinic and has done very well in the car and on the leash, as well as entering strange areas. In the vet’s office she sat nicely and wagged at the other dogs present. Challenges: This puppy will need a home with another dog already present to help her learn the ropes and increase her confidence. Any Medical issues? None known. What would be the best kind of home? Zena’s people will need to be patient and vigilant with her training to bring out the best in this beautiful, sweet girl. She’ll do best with a home that has another K9 to guide her and show her the ropes and a home where her people are home more often than not. (A home where everyone is gone for long periods of time would not be appropriate.) Zena is a great puppy that will blossom in no time and make any family VERY happy!
