Mastiff / Fila Brasileiro / Mixed (short coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Large
Canyon came to MTM from a high-kill shelter in Philadelphia. He had been discovered in a vacant apartment, abandoned by his former owners. Severely underweight and suffering from a multitude of health issues, he was time-stamped to be put down a few days before Christmas of 2022. After being pulled from the shelter, Canyon took a few weeks to come out of his shell. He wasn't used to people being kind, or having enough food available to him, or soft beds to lay on. In fact, it took several months of weight gain and medical treatment to finally discover his breed--Fila Brasileiro! Once he finally began to fill out, his pumpkin-colored coat really shone and showed off his expressive brown eyes. Canyon's health journey has been full of set-backs. He continues to deal with chronic wounds on his feet and ankles and very sensitive skin. He has a prominent heart murmur, which makes medical procedures involving sedation particularly risky. And he suffers from the canine version of irritable bowel syndrome which caused nearly a year of bloody, painful stools. More about CanyonGood with Dogs Special Needs: His skin is very itchy with lots of sores and scabs. In a medical exam it was discovered that he also has a grade III heart murmur and possible arthritis Important notes before applying.
