English Mastiff (short coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Large
Zeus is a 4-year-old English Mastiff boy who loves you the moment he meets you. Are you looking for someone to stare adoringly at you? To "clean up" food that drops on the ground while cooking? To knock over an end table just to lay at your feet? Then this dreamboat is for you! Likes: Following you everywhere, being outside in the sunshine, showing off his best manners like "sit" and "shake", putting his massive pumpkin head into your lap for even more petting. Dislikes: Vegetables ("why would you give me rabbit food?!"), when you go into the bathroom and don't invite him (who needs boundaries?). Personality: Attentive, cuddly, super devoted, will follow you anywhere (and yes, even into the bathroom). Temperament: Relaxed and tolerant with everyone and everything. Energy level: Very chill; he'll follow you wherever you're going, but he prefers to snooze on the floor when you get there. Favorite activities: Smiling, having his belly rubbed, laying directly in the middle of the kitchen floor while you're trying to cook, sending a drool slinger as high as possible when he shakes his head. Good with cats, dogs, and kids over 6?: Non-reactive to cats; non-reactive to farm animals (his foster home has chickens); defers to other dogs and is polite with his sniffing; because he's such a cheerful bulldozer with no idea how big he is, would recommend either kids over 10 or kids with previous giant breed experience. Not good with: Nothing so far..he's easy to please! Housetrained: Yes, and is clear with his communication when he needs to go out. Crate trained: According to his original owners, yes. Challenges: Zeus is a typical mastiff and comes with the usual mastiff stubbornness. If he'd like to continue to lay in the yard and you tell him it's time to come in, his first response is to roll into the grass and refuse to move. It may take a few minutes (and a leash, and bribery with treats) to get him to comply, but he's getting there. Any Medical issues? MTM will verify that he's up-to-date on all vaccines before adoption. What would be the best kind of home? Zeus came from an original home with other dogs and kids, and would do well in an environment where he has lots of other people & pets to love. His mastiff hard-headedness is part of the breed, and he would be a good dog for a first-time mastiff owner or seasoned giant breed lover alike. He's such a handsome, happy guy. We just know that his perfect forever home is out there!
