About Sam (aka Samson)

  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Fawn
  • Current Size: 182 Pounds
  • Current Age: 10 Years 7 Months (best estimate)
  • Housetrained: Yes

Samson (Sam) is the absolute definition of a gentle giant. He is a laid back pup who is housetrained and loves to cuddle. He sleeps through the night and is not destructive when left alone in the house. He came to MTM from Myrtle Beach and his only issue are his dry eyes. He gets drops in them every three days and only as needed in between. He will let you put the drops in and does not growl or run away. He was very spoiled and pampered by his previous owner and has only known love. You can tell that by his demeanor. Just a huge Teddy Bear, really.

Likes: Kong toy with peanut butter, footballs, dental treats, and joint supplements.

Dislikes: Flights of stairs - Sam can do 5-6 wide, flat steps all day every day no problem, but has two surgically repaired ACL's that can't take a lot of steps.

Personality:  Laid back, gentle protector. Awesome dog all around.

Temperament: Takes meds with no issues, lets you clip his nails, clean his ears, be handled, etc.

Energy level: Loves morning and evening walks, but not too long of a walk.

Favorite activities: Kissing your nose - say "Lick my nose" and he will!

Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: Curiosity with cats, but has shown no predatory signals - actually licked them when they stayed still long enough, haha. He does great in a pack environment, but was the sole dog in his previous home. He has also been great with the infant in the foster home.

Not good with: Haven't seen anything he's not good with besides getting in the car by himself. He will let you help him get in with no issues.

Housetrained: Yes!

Crate trained: Sam has never seen a crate a day in his life.

Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)? He's not a runner. Probably not required as long as he's always on a leash outside.

Walks well on a leash? Extremely well!

Challenges: Sam has no personal bubble space - he will get right up on you if he thinks you have a treat or something else he might be interested in - easily corrected.

Any Medical issues? Dry eye - requires drops every 3 days and as needed in between - two surgically repaired ACL's - fully healed.

What would be the best kind of home?  Sam's first 7 years were with his previous owner who was a retired vet where he was the only dog. In his Foster environment, there are two other dogs (one a Corso) and two cats, plus an infant. He has handled the new, much more active environment smoothly and had integrated himself into the pack and foster family within 48 hours. The infant is his favorite friend according to the foster family.

SAM IS LOCATED IN CANTON, OH.
