About Fern (Bonded with Socks)

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: $450.00
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with White
  • Current Age: 6 Years 6 Months (best estimate)
  • Housetrained: Yes

Fern and her sister Socks came to MTM after their family had some changes to their home life. Sadly, they knew that the best option for the bonded sisters would be to find them a new home where they can receive the attention that they deserve. They are loving and sweet girls who are looking for a place to retire together!

Likes: Snuggling on the couch, receiving ear scratches, walks, and being with her sister.

Dislikes: Being without her sister. Fern is definitely more bonded to Socks than Socks is to Fern.

Personality: Very sweet and loving. Laid back.

Temperament: Fern is a bit shy when meeting new people and needs some time to warm up. She did well getting a bath and having her ears and eyes cleaned.

Energy level: Enjoys a decent walk and to romp around in the yard a bit every day, but generally low energy level.

Favorite activities: Snuggle time on the couch

Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?:  Fern has met a couple other dogs and done well with them, but reportedly has a history of starting fights with other female dogs when they get too close to her sister. Has lived with cats and done well. Has met children and done well, though their size might be a bit much.

Not good with: N/A

Housetrained: Yes – 100%

Crate trained: N/A – non-destructive when left alone (no crate).

Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)? Fern came from a home with a fenced in yard but has done well being leashed at her foster home. While a fenced-in yard may not be required, it is definitely preferred.

Walks well on a leash? Yes, with her gentle leader. She doesn’t love it yet, but she is getting used to it.

Challenges: Someone must be willing to take in double the love - 2 Great Danes!  They are a bonded pair.

Any Medical issues? N/A

What would be the best kind of home? Fern would do best in a home with her sister, Socks, and no other female dogs. They would fit into most homes and lifestyles, as long as they get their daily snuggle time!

Fern & Socks are being fostered in Bethel Park, PA.
