About Roman

  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Tan/Yellow/Fawn with Black
  • Current Size: 175 Pounds
  • Current Age: 5 Years 6 Months (best estimate)

Roman is a very large, loyal velcro dog. He will try to sit on your lap and supervise the cooking of a meal. He always wants to know where his human is and what they are doing. He will use his massive paw to ask for attention.

Likes:  Belly rubs and being near his people.

Dislikes: His feet and ears messed with. Not a fan of nail trims.

Personality: Goofy, large boy who gets small spurts of energy. Loves to make sure you are cooking dinner correctly in hopes to get a morsel. He is a very big baby!

Temperament: Does well at the vet but doesn’t like nail trims. He cries if he thinks you’re going to hurt his ears. Sensitive.

Energy level: Couch potato but will follow you all over the house. Occasional spurts of energy in the back yard.

Favorite activities: Pets and more pets!

Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?  Does well with cats and female dogs. Has gotten into scuffles with the 2 male dogs in the foster house. No kids under 10 due to his massive size and sometimes rough use of paws to ask for attention.

Not good with: (Cats? Dogs? Strangers? Men? Kids?)  Dominant male dogs or possibly male dogs in general.

Housetrained: Yes

Crate trained: No. Due to massive size he will not fit. Does very well in the house alone.

Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)?  Too tall for invisible fence - would need physical fence. Roman likes to wander, so a physical fence is a requirement for his next family.

Walks well on a leash? Yes

Challenges: His size makes it hard to get in and out of vehicles.

Any Medical issues? Roman has hip dysplasia and should be on lifelong glucosamine supplement and anti-inflammatories. He has a hard time with steps and vehicles.

What would be the best kind of home? Romanwould do best in a less active house with people who aren’t away a lot. He is a velcro dog and loves human company. He would prefer a one story house with very few steps due to his hip dysplasia. Best with female dogs and older children. Cats are ok. Would do fine with a 4 ft or higher fence.

Roman is being fostered in Butler, PA.
