Learn more about the Bullmastiff.
At the request of County officials, Mastiffs to Mutts took in 13 of 18 Bullmastiffs from the property of a deceased breeder in Kentucky. They were all severely neglected; emaciated and in poor health. Likes: Naps. Naps. and Naps. She likes her crate; it’s where she stores her courage and all of her toys. She recently learned to use the stairs. She will go up and down them several times a day just because she can! Khloe also likes sniffing for treats in her snuffle mat or grass. She loves finding treats scattered on the floor after her potty breaks. Her happy dance is adorable.
Dislikes: Loud noises. New places without her crate as the safe space. Walking on a leash in unfamiliar places is scary for her.
Personality: Khloe is sweet and gentle. She likes to play in the morning with her toys or another playful but gentle dog companion.
Temperament: Khloe will take any kind of medicine in a peanut butter sandwich. She tolerates nail trimming if there is a 1:1 ratio of clipping and treats. She has been groomed with ease. She is shy but is trying her best to trust people. She does well on car rides once she’s in the car.
Energy level: Couch potato! She is very agile though when outside. She goes as far away as possible to #2 but runs like she’s in a race back to the house where she happy-dances until treats are tossed for her to find. She is low energy all day with happy energy in the morning and evening.
Favorite activities: Napping, playing with her canine sibling, and sniffing for treats. She’s a real cuddler if you let her.
Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: Yes. Yes. Yes. Cats are fun to watch. Gentle dogs are the best. She loves children if they aren’t rambunctious. (Kids can make loud noises which she hides from)
Not good with: Loud noises, unfamiliar places, and must have a crate as her safe space
Housetrained: yes
Crate trained: absolutely
Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)? She likes to hide in shrubs or brush to go potty. She is shy going to the bathroom on a leash. She could go to a home that isn’t fenced.
Walks well on a leash? Not really. She pancakes in fear. With patience and practice she will learn to love walks.
Challenges: Khloe’s rescue situation leaves her feeling shy and unsure of new places and people. She warms to people very quickly but she is extremely hesitant with unfamiliar places. She will hide. Patience is the key to her success.
