At the request of County officials, Mastiffs to Mutts took in 13 of 18 Bullmastiffs from the property of a deceased breeder in Kentucky in August 2021.  They were all severely neglected; emaciated and in poor health.

All 13 are learning to live inside a home, sleep on a soft bed, receive regular, quality meals, play and receive human affection. All are good with other dogs.

Kona  fka KYID#1

Brief description: Kona is one of the Kentucky 13. He arrived at his foster home at an emaciated 55lbs and is now a healthy 114lbs! He is crate trained, house trained, and knows a lot of commands - sit, shake, lay down, and roll over to name a few. He will wait for food until you say take it. He is good in the bathtub, and fine with nail trimmings. He loves going for car rides and walks. He does best walking on an easy walk harness. He is reactive to cats and farm animals.

Likes: Kona likes other dogs, loves kids, ice cubes, stuffed animals, bones, and his bed.

Dislikes: He definitely does NOT like cats.  He’s also not a fan of farm animals.

Personality: Very sweet - he loves everyone he meets.  He’s lazy, docile, and very tolerant of anything.

Temperament: Kona is very food driven. He does great with getting a bath and having his nails cut and takes medicine well when wrapped inside cheese. He loves being brushed.

Energy level:  Low – He’s lazy but does love to go on walks.

Favorite activities: Going for rides, walks, playing with his stuffed animals, chewing bones, and sleeping.

Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: Fantastic with dogs and children!

Not good with: Cats and farm animals.

Housetrained: Yes!

Crate trained: Yes!

Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)? Kona requires a completely fenced in yard as he’s a runner. An invisible fence will not hold Kona.

Walks well on a leash? Yes, but he requires an easy walk harness (size XL).

Challenges: Kona is crate trained, however the best place for his crate would be in a bedroom where his people sleep. He does like to be near his people.

Any Medical issues? He does get ear infections quite often.

What would be the best kind of home? Kona needs a family life.  He loves children and other dogs. He requires a completely fenced in yard as he will run if he sees any wildlife/cats/anything that moves… so he really needs a fenced in yard. He does well being alone and crated for a few hours a day. He’s a very sweet boy and loves everyone he meets!

Kona is being fostered in Brookville, PA.
