Neapolitan Mastiff (short coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : X-Large Learn more about the Neapolitan Mastiff.
Mingo crossed the United States to get to Mastiffs to Mutts Rescue. He was found as a stray in California and had a microchip, but when contacted, the owner did not want this wonderful boy back. Most likely because they did not want to pay for the surgeries he needed. Mingo was still intact and needed cherry eye surgery in both eyes. Mingo is now neutered, had his eye surgery and is ready for his forever home.
This boy is a big, goofy, happy love bug. He loves attention and to have his face stroked. He is smart and seems to know some basic obedience.
Likes: Mingo loves treats and filled dog bones. He loves to have his chin scratched and his face petted.
Dislikes: nothing found so far!
Personality: Mingo is sweet and always looking for approval. When outside he will do his business then come right back for some loving. The return is often a goofy run meant to get his human to laugh and play with him.
Temperament: Mingo takes his meds in his food without issue. He’s not thrilled with the eye cream that he needs twice a day but he will allow it once he realizes he has to.
Energy level: Mingo is low energy, but this might change once he has completely healed from his two surgeries and is comfortable in his own home. Even then, his day would probably consist of long naps interrupted by the occasional short playing.
Favorite activities: Sleeping, both inside and out in the grass
Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: Mingo does not pay any attention to the cats living in his foster home. He traveled with another dog from the shelter he was at and quickly bonded with her. He seems interested in the dogs living in the foster home, but due to his surgeries he has not met them yet. He has not met any kids yet.
Not good with: nothing yet
Housetrained: Yes
Crate trained: Very. He is calm in the crate and it is always clean and dry.
Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)? Mingo is comfortable in a fenced yard but does not require one.
Challenges: no
Any Medical issues? Mingo had cherry eye in both eyes. Because of his size and breed this could need a second surgery to completely fix the problem. The Vet doing the first surgery said Mingo has ectropion that might require another eye surgery at some point.
What would be the best kind of home? Mingo deserves a loving home where he is safe and wanted. He is a calm, easy going guy that would do well in any home lucky enough to have him.
