Shadow is a joy. She is friendly and playful as can be with the big dogs she has met. She is completely indifferent to the cats in her foster home. Shadow is charismatic and soft hearted. A big yard, a nice medium - large male dog playmate would make her a happy girl.

Likes: Bigger male dogs

Dislikes: harshness, lots of change in habit or environment, car rides

Personality: joyful, very playful but can be timid at first and unsure. She should never be yelled at. She is very soft hearted.

Temperament: very compliant typically. Will need a bit of patience until she gets her bearings in a new home.

Energy level: currently walking 2+ miles a day. Needs a male dog to play with. Plays 4 hours a day.  

Favorite activities: Chewing bones, napping, staring at chickens menacingly, chasing walnuts in the yard, drinking from puddles, surprise attacks on her foster brothers while they nap 

Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: Yes, but not tested with female dogs.

Not good with: possibly smaller female dogs

Housetrained: 90% -- needs a schedule

Crate trained: perfectly

Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)? Not required but preferred. A home with an invisible/underground fence will not be considered.

Walks well on a leash? Pretty good, walks briskly

Challenges: Shadow doesn’t alert when she has to go to the bathroom. She needs to go out on a schedule and after excessive drinking or playing. She is a submissive “spirinkler” when she is around a new person. It takes her a week or so to gain confidence in a new home.

Any Medical issues? Shadow has some itchy skin and was put on a probiotic for soft stools. This has improved steadily over the last few months but she is still considered postpartum (delivered a litter of 3 in August 2021).

Shadow is being fostered in Big Prairie, OH.

Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our funds are used for rescuing the dogs.

Our rescue policy requires the following:

• Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina and parts of New York.
• We will not adopt a giant breed dog to homes where the dog will have access to highly varnished hardwood steps inside the home. Any inside steps to which the dog(s) have access, must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit.
• Methods or devices using pain or force on the dog to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior is prohibited.
• Applications for giant breed dogs must be submitted by the property owner.
• Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption.
• Homes with children should have a fenced yard.
• Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Veterinary records will be checked.
• All references must be checked before any visitation of the dog is permitted at the foster home.
• All family members must be present during the home visit to the applicant's home.
• Any dog(s) in the applicant's home must have an introductory meeting with the rescue dog being considered, before any adoption can be completed.
• Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption. Exceptions to this policy can be found on the Adoptable Dog Page.
