(ex. takes meds with no issues, lets you clip his nails, clean his ears, be handled, how he does at the vet)
Energy level: Odin is still a puppy, but he is an overall pretty low-energy guy most of the time. A few walks, a few fun, short training sessions, and a good play session or two daily will be sufficient. He’s perfectly happy to crash on the couch and nap after a twenty minute play/training session or a good outside walk.
Favorite activities: Odin loves to gnaw on various toys and learn new commands. He is a quick learner and eager to please. When the snow is perfectly fluffy, he will stick his face in the snow to make face prints as well as snacking on the snow throughout walks. His other favorite activity is snuggling with you on the couch and snoring loudly next to you.
Good with cats, dogs, and kids over 6?: Odin needs very slow and cautious introductions to other dogs. He is an energetic teenager and is working on calming his excitement when he sees other dogs. He is not aggressive but is over-excited when he sees a potential playmate and can be very overbearing. He will need someone committed to continuing to work with training him through his adolescent boisterous phase. He has not yet been introduced to young kids. He is good with teens and adults with proper, slow introductions that allow Odin to overcome his timidness and approach the new person when he is ready.
Not good with: He has shown high interest at times with cats and sometimes fixates on them. Therefore we would not recommend a home with cats.
Housetrained: Yes.
Crate trained: Odin will only go into the crate with a high value treat. He settles after a few minutes.
Challenges: Odin can become boisterous and jump when he is happy to see his people. We are working on training daily and he has improved tremendously. Odin has no idea of his size and strength so continued consistent obedience training is important. When left alone in a room he will whine at times if he hears his people and cannot get to them.
Any Medical issues? none What would be the best kind of home? Odin would do best in an experienced home that will work on consistent training in a positive manner. Odin is a bit too interested in cats, so we recommend a home with no cats or small animals. He would be just fine as an only dog, but would need a gradual slow introduction to other dogs. He does not know how big he truly is, so a home with adults and older kids would be best. He still has a lot growing and filling out to do. He is curious about his surroundings when being walked and has a lot of energy once outside sniffing around. Odin would thrive in an active home with consistent training, proper socialization to help him gain confidence, and a couch to call his own. Our rescue policy requires the following:
