About Mack (Thornburg)

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: 450.00
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Fawn
  • Current Size: 96 Pounds
  • Current Age: 3 Years 11 Months (born on 5/22/2020)

Mack is a 9 month old, energetic, adorable, mastiff-something-or-other. Mack has a life-long medical condition, Diabetes Insipidus (DI). Mack's condition is currently controlled by a nasal spray medication but will require periodic vetting. This hasn't broken this boy's spunkiness. His gray face, huge feet and wrinkles will steal your heart.

Likes:
Mack loves toys, playing fetch, biscuits, his foster brother, and ear and belly rubs.

Dislikes:
Mack doesn't like eye drops, children, leashes.

Mack has the best personality. His face is very expressive. He lets you know how excited he is when you are preparing his meals. He will sit on his mat until you place his bowl down. He can be rambunctious but is training everyday to not jump and have manners at the front door. He self corrects by greeting people by walking between legs for a butt rub. TOO CUTE!

Mack does well at the vet. He relaxes on car rides but does need significant coaxing/help to get into the vehicle. He allows his paws to be wiped but isn't happy about a bath. Nail clipping requires slow-going, trust and treats. He takes pills like a champ with a little peanut butter. He is learning to take his nasal spray with ease. He responds well to commands with treats.

Mack has puppy energy. He will engage anyone or anything to play and eventually makes his own fun. He runs in the yard and around the house. His nose will take him all over the yard sniffing for bunnies or deer. Mack does sleep through the night --play hard/sleep hard. He will go to his crate to rest on his own.

Mack loves to play; Toys, people, throw rugs, milk jugs, blowing leaves are all playmate options for this spunky guy. Fetch is his new favorite game but he's pretty good at hide-n-seek. Mack has a big foster brother that is his favorite playmate, though. Mack can often be found warming his buns at the fireplace or in a sunny spot on the floor.

Good with cats, dogs, and kids over 6?:  Mack chases cats. He is very curious about their behaviors. He hasn't hurt one. Mack is dog friendly but can be overwhelming for many dogs. Mack is not recommended for children.

Not good with: Children, eye drops or leashes.

Housetrained: Mack is housetrained but does have pee accidents due to diabetes insipidus. He has come so far, though.

Mack will go to his crate to relax, take a time-out, and for bedtime. Mack has not been crate trained for daytime work hours.

Mack would do well in a home with another dog for a playmate and a mostly-at-home human without children.  Mack required a secure physical fenced-in yard due to his aversion to leashes (no invisible fences, please). To be the most successful, Mack must have an owner that is patient, breed savvy and dedicated to training.

Fostered in McDonald, PA.

Puppy Adoption Policy:

To ensure proper house training and socialization, puppies will only be adopted to homes where an adult will not be away more than an hour per day, per month of age of the puppy, up to 6 months.

Puppies will be adopted out on a 'Foster to Adopt' basis. This means that if/when your application is approved to adopt, you sign a contract stating you are fostering the puppy until the time it is neutered/spayed at your expense. Giant breed puppies should be not be spayed/neutered before 12 months of age. All non-giant breed puppies must be spayed/neutered by the age of 6 months, unless otherwise recommended by your veterinarian. We will amend the Foster-to-Adopt contract to make the puppy legally yours, only when we receive a spay/neuter certificate from you or your veterinarian. If the puppy is not spayed/neutered as required, we will take possession of the puppy once again.

Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our funds are used for rescuing the dogs.

Our rescue policy requires the following:

  • We will not adopt a giant breed dog to homes where the dog will have access to highly varnished hardwood steps inside the home.
