Great Dane : : Male (not neutered) Learn more about the Great Dane.
Ryker is an active 19-month-old Great Dane. He still acts like a pup and loves to play but does know basic obedience commands. His attention span is not always the greatest, but with a little consistency will continue to improve. He is a lovebug and enjoys being rubbed and scratched. He's not a “velcro” dog but does like to know what everyone is doing and frequently checks-in. Likes: Playing with toys, treats, napping Dislikes: not a fan of children, or the train that goes by his foster house (loud noises) Personality: initially leery of strangers but is ok within a minute or so. Warms up quickly to “his people” and is very affectionate at times- slow introductions are a must Temperament: no issues with being touched all over, he tends to get overstimulated when children are around him Energy level: is constantly moving and watching what is going on in his world, does settle into the household routine as the days progress Favorite Activities: playing ball and tug-of-war with his rope Good With: other dogs and cats (although will playfully chase if the cat runs), okay with parakeets in cages indoors Not Good With: children, does pull on the leash when walking but should improve with continued work House-trained: yes Crate-trained: yes, currently crated when no one is home and sleeps in crate overnight, but once settled into his new home probably will not require it. Will go in on his own at night and puts himself to bed when he's ready- it is his “safe place” Challenges: He's young enough that his attention span is not that long, but with consistent work he will focus. Occasionally needs reminded that he is a big boy Medical Issues: none known, he will be neutered Sept 1 and will be available once he has healed Ryker will do best with a family that will keep him engaged in continued obedience training. Due to his bite history with a small child who dropped somethin gon him- he will not be placed in a home with children. He would do best in a home without children who visit and quieter environment. Dog companions may be helpful to help show him the way! Fostered in Montoursville, PA.
