Great D ane , DOB 8 / 1 / 201 9 M idnight is a sweet, energetic young Great Dane who just celebrated his 2nd birthday on August 1st ! He is a terrific boy looking for love and lots of snuggles! His adopter(s) will be very lucky to have this special boy as part of their family. Midnight is a 1 3 0 -lb hunk who is handsome and sweet. He came to MTM as an owner surrender, His foster home is now his 3 rd home with lots of transitions- Midnight is ready to put down roots and find the stability of a forever home. Likes: Affection, leaning against his person , walks , play . He likes a soft and slow approach, soft voices, and lots of praise. Dislikes: Having to wait for food or treats. Personality: Sweet! He’s a playful, curious boy who love to lean in and snuggle with his person. Temperament: Midnight is a friendly . When outside, h e barks at vehicles and other dogs passing near his property. Energy level: He is moder ately e nergetic . He craves a nice walk or play session at least a couple times per day but then easily settles down for a good snuggle or nap. Favorite activities : Being close to his person. G oing on walk s . Good with cats, dogs, and kids over 6? Midnight easily passed his pre-intake dog test with wagging tails. I n his foster home, he’s been good with a female mastiff in his foster home . In his prior home he lived with a young girl and boy of about 5 -7 yrs old and a female bulldog and was good with all . Mastiffs to Mutts will not adopt to homes with children under 6 years old. He has NOT been cat tested. Not good with: His foster has not observed anything he’s not good with yet. Housetrained: Yes! H e will relieve himself either on or off leash . Crate trained: Yes! H e crates easily and seems to enjoy being in his crate . In his foster home, he sleeps through the night in the crate. Obedience trained: Midnight has had some training but n eeds more work on basic commands. He knows “lie down.” Needs work on sit and stay. His foster Mom is working on commands with him. Regarding leash skills, upon arriving to rescue he initially did a lot of pulling and wandering when being walked. With the use of a martingale collar or Easy Walk harness, within a week he settled in to walking very nicely without pulling- this continues to show improvement. Challenges: He excitedly takes treats, which can involve teeth on the giver’s hand. With some practice he should be able to learn to take treats more gently. He is not a fan of stairs and will only do a few. He’s a big boy and likely still growing ! He needs a 54-inch or larger crate and a large vehicle. He’s big and strong and likes physical contact, usually putting his weight on/against you. He can be a little pushy with his affection. He could use some training to work on his manners, commands (currently his response to any command is either ignore or lay down), and practicing good leash walking skills with his new owner. Any Medical issues? Midnight has a lump on his left rear foot, which will be removed and checked out when he’s neutered in August 2020. What would be the best kind of home? The best home for Midnight w ould be one that can provide plenty of daily outdoor stimulation and exercise includ ing daily walks. A fenced yard would be great so he can run around and explore. Midnight craves affection, company , and physical contact with his person . His prospective owner must be ok with being leaned against and with having Midnight’s head in his/her lap.
