About Murphy (now Kane) (Gerlach)

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Size: 134.4 Pounds
  • Current Age: 4 Years 11 Months (best estimate)
  • Housetrained: Yes
  • Exercise Needs: Moderate

Murphy is a very handsome one-year old neutered male Cane Corso.  He is very playful, strong, fast and agile.

Likes: Toys, long walks, playing in the yard, eating and lots of belly rubs and kisses

Personality: Murphy is a big boy with lots of puppy energy.  He is very affectionate and can be strong willed at times.

Temperament: Murphy is trainable, and food motivated.  He takes treats very gently and allows his foster mom to clean his ears, touch his paws and handle him. However, he is extremely protective once he gets comfortable. He will need a breed saavy home who understands the Corso breed and will keep visitors safe.

Energy Level: High. Murphy enjoys a lot of exercise and play time.

Favorite Activities: eating, playing with his toys, running around the yard and long walks

Good with cats, dogs and kids over 6: Murphy is not a fan of cats or small dogs. He will not be placed with children or in a home that house child visitors. He is currently residing with 2 other large dogs and is very eager to play with them.

Housetrained: Yes

Crate trained: Yes. Murphy easily goes in and out of his crate and will sleep all night in his crate.

Challenges: Murphy can be rambunctious while playing and easily forgets his size and strength. He is working on learning some manners.  He will pull had on leash if he sees prey.

Medical Issues: Murphy was recently neutered and is recovering nicely, He has no other known medial issues.

Best Type of Home for Murphy:  He would do best in a home with a 6 foot fenced-in yard (he can jump a 4 foot) and plenty of room to play. Murphy needs a confident and experienced owner that can continue to train him and show him boundaries. He needs POSITIVE reinforcement formalized obedience training (no prongs, shock, or e collars).

Murphy loves to play with other dogs; however, he does not know how to read their signals when they are not interested in playing. As a result, Murphy needs to be closely monitored while playing with other dogs. Murphy will pull when walking and is prey driven. He has not demonstrated any food or toy aggression. True to his breed, Murphy is very protective of his people and is weary of strangers in his home. He should not be placed in a home that has frequent visitors.

Fostered in Reading PA.
