  • Species: Dog
  • Current Size: 80 Pounds
  • Current Age: 9 Years (best estimate)

Odessa came to us after living life on the streets while caring for her 12 babies. She is learning new things everyday and enjoying the luxuries of a comfortable bed, consistent meals, and endless massages. She is just the happiest girl in the world when her people walk through the door and she does the cutest little happy hops to show her excitement!

Likes: Odessa loves being sweet talked to. She is a cuddle bug and enjoys massages. She melts right into your lap and will stare at you with affection.

Dislikes: children of all shapes and sizes. Odessa gives the impression children may not have been nice to her in the past. She is defensive and fearful with young and older children (even teens)

Personality: Once Odessa is comfortable, you will see she is so full of LOVE! She is showing her silly side and will do little excitement hops if you baby talk her. She LOVES toys and will carry them all over the house. When she is feeling super affectionate she will seek out her person and push her head into them for nuzzles. This girl is the SWEETEST!

Temperament: Due to her past, she is nervous of new surroundings and new people, especially men and children. She is a protector of her house and yard and will bark at "intruders". However, she allows her foster mom to clean her ears, brush her, bathe her, trim and paint her nails. She loves to be pampered with grooming!

Energy level: very mild, couch potato, but enjoys occassional sprints around the yard

Favorite activities: playing with her toys and naps, being loved on and adored by her people

Good with cats, dogs, and kids over 6?: Odessa takes time to warm up, but once she knows she is safe she adores other dogs. She currently lives with an English Mastiff and a Saint Bernard/Dane mix. She not a fan of kids or cats. She chased the yorkie in the home at first but did learn to accept her when the Yorkie stood her ground. They completely ignore each other now. However, even after 3 months she still stalks the chinchilla.

Not good with: cats, small animals, kids, strangers

Housetrained: yes

Crate trained: yes but she has free roam in her foster home and is not destructive. She will mostly find a bed to sleep on or curl up on the couch to look out the window.

Challenges: Odessa is fearful at first and will need a patient adopter willing to build her confidence and teach her she is safe in this new world. If they can give her a solid week to build trust, she will become the best friend and best protector a person could ever ask for.

Any Medical issues? Odessa seems to have seasonal allergies. Apoquel was not successful for her but bathing her bi-weekly helps.

What would be the best kind of home?Odessa needs a calm, quiet home without any children or small pets. Her ideal home would be with a single woman who wants a best friend and protector of her home. She would prefer a fenced in yard in a country setting, or a home with a privacy fence without neighbors close by. She needs a patient adopter who is willing to earn her love and give her the pampering she deserves. She would prefer not to live in an active household with frequent company or any child visitors.

Fostered in South Williamsport, PA.
