About Betsy

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: 350.00
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Size: 119 Pounds
  • Current Age: 9 Years (best estimate)

Betsy is a super sweet fawn English Mastiff.  She loves affection and will nuzzle your hand and gives lots of wet kisses.  She was in a shelter for two months where she came in very underweight.  She is gaining weight and confidence, but this poor girl clearly had a rough patch and just needs lots of love, patience and reassurance.

Likes: scratches, her people, napping!

Dislikes: currently afraid of crates, easily startled at this time, being alone as she prefers to be with people, unsure about climbing into cars

Personality: Very sweet, but can be stubborn and refuse to move if she doesn’t want to go

Temperament: Low energy but nervous now, though she is relaxing as she settles in.  Will let you touch or handle her anywhere, including giving her pills

Energy Level: low

Favorite activities: Being near you, sleeping.  She doesn't use toys or bones

Good with: Dogs, cats, children over 6.

Not good with: Crates currently, being outside at night, lots of commotion

Housetrained: Mostly. She has had a few accidents as she learns to tell us she needs to go out.  She sometimes asks to come inside before she is done and has had a few accidents. We are working on consistency as she adjusts to her foster home and surroundings.

Challenges: She will stop on walks if she gets spooked and needs scratches and lots of reassurance to get going.  Picky with food, which may be partially due to nausea caused by medication for Lyme's disease. She is uncertain about many things but already starting to relax in her new environment. She has yet to do stairs and seems unfamiliar to her, but we are working on that.

Medical Issues: Current treatment for Lyme's Disease, some stiffness with arthritis

Best home for Betsy would be one that is patient, fairly quiet. She wants to be near her people, watch tv and get “scratchies”.

Fostered in Norristown, PA.
