About Brutus

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: 450.00
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 8 Years 8 Months (best estimate)

BRUTUS is a very sweet 3-year-old English Mastiff who is house, and crate trained. Brutus knows basic commands Sit, Stay, Down, Shake and is very smart! He is ready to learn more and bond with you. Brutus will go into his crate; however, he has proven worthy of free reign of the house. He has not had accidents, nor has he been destructive in the home. Brutus sleeps on his own bed with his foster parents and sleeps through the night. Brutus would love to sleep with you in the people bed as this is what he was accustomed too! Brutus came to us from Tennessee and is heartworm negative and has no known medical issues. Brutus is the best in class for certain!

Likes : Brutus loves butt scratches and balls! He loves to pounce, toss and shake the balls and easily continues to play independently after the first toss. He loves when you to stay engaged. Brutus is an active pup and loves to be outside, prancing the yard and checking out his surroundings. When relaxing, he enjoys napping and likes to be with his people. For kisses, he will place his head next to yours for you to kiss him. Brutus is typical mastiff Velcro and will stay close to you in the home – but he also has his independence. Brutus loves to be outside and will try to get you to stay out with him because he doesn’t want to come inside.

Dislikes : Brutus dislikes having his nails trimmed and ears cleaned, but who enjoys either of those! He gets a sad face and wants to avoid you by putting his head down, but he is docile during cleaning. I have not identified any significant dislikes at this time.

Personality: Brutus is strong willed and needs a strong leader in the home. He will likely push his boundaries. He is also excitable and when in new places he just wants to see, do, and visit everyone and can be hard to control if you can’t get him to pay attention to you.

What he has learned: Brutus can Sit, Down, Shake and Stay – Very well inside. He is learning to hold back his excitement on walks outside by practicing sitting, watch me, and down.

Temperament: Brutus is as sweet as can be, well socialized and loves everybody who comes into his home. He appears to also be sight driven which can lead to excitement.

Energy Level:   Moderately Active - Brutus is still very much a puppy and loves to play but also settles nicely.

Favorite Activities:   Brutus loves playing with balls and tossing them around. He also enjoys chewing on the nubbly wubbly, antlers and nylabones.

Good with Dogs and Cats:   Brutus is good with dogs and had lived with a cat previously. Like any introduction, take time to introduce slowly to ensure success.

Housetrained:   Yes – Never had an accident in foster home

Crate trained:   Yes – Will go into the crate to sleep sometimes

Not Good With/Challenges: Walking on a leash – Brutus he has not had much leash training. It appears all he has received has been in his foster home.  The new adopter will need to dedicate time for training as this will also deepen the bond.

Medical Issues: None – He is very healthy and loving life!

Best Home: Brutus needs a strong leader to help him gain trust and feel secure, so he is not left making his own decisions nor testing his boundaries. His life turned upside down when he lost his Mama. Brutus loves spending time with his family. He would do best with a family who will commit to training and creating a bond and spending time with him – having fun!

Fostered in Harleysville, PA.
