Bernese Mountain Dog : : Male Learn more about the Bernese Mountain Dog.
Brief description: Zipper came to us as a Puppy Mill Survivor from Holmes County, OH. He is a shy boy & still somewhat scared of this new world. He desperately wants to trust and has made great progress in his short time in foster care. He loves to look to his person for security and safety. He loves to run in the yard & lay next to his person to settle in for a good movie. Each day his adorable personality blossoms as he navigates through his fears. Likes: Zipper LOVES to run & play in the yard and just spend time with his person. Dislikes: Loud noises, sudden movements & walking through doorways. Personality: Absolute sweetheart, laid back in the house but loves to run & play in the yard. Temperament: Excellent being handled. Loves to be brushed & petted. Energy Level: Loves to play in the yard, but also LOVES to be a couch potato. :) Favorite Activities: Spending time with his person & his chew toy. Good with: Dogs, older children ( that don’t move to fast ) Ignores cats & horses Housetrained: We are currently working on potty training & he gets better every day! Crate trained: Yes Zipper enjoys his crate with a blanket cover for security & comfort. Challenges: Zipper has had a few accidents in his crate which can certainly be expected from a Puppy Mill Dog. He does fantastic out of the crate and has not had an accident in the house. He is doing great realizing that he should potty outside. He is slowly but surely making great progress with patience & positive reinforcement. Zipper is scared of sudden movements & loud noises. He will run & hide. He is getting braver & more confident each day. With consistent patience & routine Zipper will overcome his fears. Any Medical issues? No What would be the best kind of home? Zipper would benefit from having another calm & confident dog in the home with him. He would do best with a fenced in yard as he LOVES to run & play. He would do best in a home where someone is not gone for more then a few hours at a time until he is more confident & fully house broke. He needs to be treated like a new puppy. He is great with everyone he has met & will bond quickly with his new family. Zipper is a very quick learner & thrives on routine. His new family should educate themselves on the trama that Puppy Mill Dogs have been exposed to & how they can continue to help this dog navigate his new, wonderful world as stress-free as possible. Zipper is going to make an outstanding addition to his new forever family.
