Dallas is already almost 100lbs and he is not neutered. Our puppy policy is to neuter at 12 months. Current research states it is best to wait for their growth plates to develop prior to neutering a giant breed. It will be the responsibility of the adopter to neuter Dallas . Meet Dallas. This big pup is ready to love and play with his forever family. Dallas is a 10 month old Dane/mix who had little socialization and spent his life locked in an outdoor kennel before coming to MTM. He is learning manners, basic obedience, house rules, and proper play with dogs. He goes to doggy daycare twice a week and is a favorite there. Dallas is an energetic puppy who will need an active family to help him become a solid citizen. Likes: Being with his humans, playing, going for walks, crunchy treats, and Himalayan Chews. Dislikes: Angry voices, fast movements, being rushed in new environments. Personality: All puppy, very goofy and playful. Temperament: Very sweet, people and dog oriented, eager to please. Dallas is a little fearful if he thinks you're mad at him, and due to his lack of socialization as a young puppy, he is timid in new environments if rushed, but will acclimate himself after a few minutes. He has already made huge progress with this, and it will likely diminish once he has bonded with his new family, and continues positive reinforcement training and socialization. Energy Level: Moderate. Dallas is not ready for the couch potato life any time soon, but as long as he can get daily exercise he will snooze contently in the evenings or during family time. He has enough energy to be a walking partner, or pair his playfulness with a similarly sized dog for yard zoomies. Dallas would thrive with an active family who can keep his puppy brain entertained, especially one that has another playful dog, or would allow him to go to doggy daycare. Favorite Activities: Going for walks, smelling the grass, playing with people or other dogs. Good with cats: Dallas is enthusiastic and may chase cats if given the opportunity. We suggest homes with dog savvy cats and proper introductions. Good with dogs: Yes. Dallas loves dogs, and has gotten along with everyone he's met thus far. However, he is still a boisterous puppy, so he plays too rough for small or senior dogs. The older dog in the foster home is teaching Dallas about personal space and when to back off, and he takes the corrections well. A family with a similarly sized dog that's on Dallas' energy level would be perfect, but if he were to be placed as an only dog, he would benefit from doggy daycare. Good with kids over 6: Yes, he loves them. Dallas' foster family has a 10yo child whom he adores and likes to play with. Not good with: Dallas is an escape artist, so he will need a 6ft privacy fence or dedicated leash walker. He walks good on a leash, but will still sometimes pull a little if he sees or smells something interesting. Housetrained: In progress. Dallas lived outside before coming to MTM, so he is learning about house rules. He has not had an accident in the house yet, but if left unsupervised he will grab a shoe, counter surf, etc. He is crated when the fosters are not home. Adopters will need to "puppy proof" their home and monitor his activity while loose until he is housebroken. Crate trained: Yes. Dallas is currently crated when the foster family is not home, and will go in on his own with a treat. He loves to have a hardy chew while crated to help keep him occupied. He shreds blankets, and will sometimes push against the crate door, so adopters will need to carefully choose his bedding and reinforce their crate door with a snap/clip. Challenges: Dallas is getting a late start to his education, so teaching a 100lb puppy about nail clipping, leash walking, house rules, etc will require a patient adopter who is willing to spend the time to help make him a well rounded pup. Medical issues: None, up to date on vaccines and preventions. Dallas is still intact, and per our puppy policy he cannot be neutered before 12mo. Please read our puppy adoption policy for additional details. What would be the best home: Dallas would thrive in an active home with another dog that has a similar temperament and energy level. Adopters will need to continue his training and socialization so that he can become a solid citizen.
