Newfoundland Dog : : Female Learn more about the Newfoundland Dog.
This pretty girl was recently rescued from a puppy mill. She is dog and cat friendly but is still adjusting to living life indoors. She enjoys her crate and uses it for comfort. She will need to go to a home with another dog to help her feel comfortable.
Brief description: Truffles is very sweet but timid. She came to us from a breeder in Ohio and is just getting the hang of enjoying herself. Truffles is housetrained and crate trained. She happily sleeps through the night in her crate and waits patiently to be let outside for a potty break. She will walk to the back door to let you know she needs to go. She is cat and dog friendly. She would thrive in a household with another happy Newfie to show her the ropes. She comes out of her shell with a lively dog her size! Truffles is sometimes reluctant to walk out the front door but once you get her going she’s a joy to walk- a bit of pulling but she follows your lead.
Likes: Hot dog slices, leaning on people, and belly rubs. She has just started expressing interest in toys and is a fan of peanut butter stuffed Kongs. Dislikes: Stairs and wood floors. She’s a bit clumsy but just mastered a 5 step staircase. We are working on bigger flights now. Truffles is eager to please but is having some issues with the mechanics of one paw in front of the other to lift herself up flights of stairs. Personality: Gentle, friendly, but timid at first. She’s warming up but is not yet an active explorer. She often seeks thecomfort of her crate.
Temperament: Truffles takes meds with no issues (stick a pill in a thin hotdog slice- she loves it!), doesn’t mind having her ears cleaned, and will stay in the tub while you bathe her (once you get her in!) We don’t know how she does at the vet but she’s all around very aggregable and takes being groomed like a champ. She is not territorial or food aggressive in the slightest; the cats have tried to sneak into her food while she calmly sits back and watches.
Energy level: So far, Truffles has been a bit of a couch/crate potato. She hasn’t figured out how to jump on the couch yet and often prefers her crate to a comfy dog bed outside of the crate. She’s great to walk once you lure her out of the house but we haven’t pushed her to go on very long walks this week due to the Polar Vortex.
Favorite activities: Truffles loves dogs and rolling around asking for belly rubs.
Good with cats, dogs, and kids over 6?: Great with dogs- she leans on other dogs for support. Good with cats- she doesn’t chase or pay much attention to them. Would be great with kids over 6. She’s a bit clumsy so she might accidentlyknock a younger child over. Not good with: Stairs and hardwood floors
Housetrained: So far, no accidents inside! She stands by the back door when she wants to go potty. Crate trained: She loves her crate. She has no problems being in it. Challenges: Shy and a bit stubborn at times. She would benefit from a fenced in yard. Any Medical issues? UTI- medication will be complete by 2/10/2019. What would be the best kind of home? She seems like she would be best in a calm, quiet, home with a large gentle dog(she loves Newfies!) to help bring her out of her shell. Great with other animals.
