Shy is a 65 lbs Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix with a thick fluffy undercoat and long overcoat. He is a one year old neutered male who is a bit timid and reserved at first, but is very sweet and attentive to people once he knows them. He is curious and will come forward to meet people and loves to be petted, as long as he is not forced. Once he is comfortable with you, he will want to be laying right at your feet! He is a bit afraid of getting into the car, but we are working on it. He is getting better on the leash as this also was new to him.
Shy enjoys children as well as adults, but is put off by sudden loudness or commotion. He is a soft sweetheart, and does not growl or snap. He gets along well with other dogs, and likes playing with other dogs, especially ones that are not too dominant or rough. He will just try to retreat if overwhelmed; he does not become aggressive. He has not been cat tested but has shown no interest in chasing small animals.
Shy was recently separated from his brother with whom he had spent his whole life, because neither dog was thriving or building confidence - it just wasn't a healthy relationship. Adjusting to life without his brother has been difficult for Shy, but he is coming out of his shell and learning how to enjoy other dogs, people, and walks.
Because of this, Shy will really need this dog buddy to keep him company and help him relax and find his place in a family. Shy would love to join a family that has a confident but sweet dog to show him the ropes. Plus, he likes to play - he is just a one year old pup! Since he is a youngster, he needs appropriate chew toys and will chew on other items on occasion (books and shoes) if they are within his reach. For his age, he is quiet and easy...he is not a heavy chewer and does not chew on furniture. He is not a boisterous pup; he does not jump up, and short play sessions or walks are adequate exercise. He spends most of his time just following his people from room to room and settling down to observe the activity or snooze. Although he has a deep bark, he only barks if there is truly a puzzling noise or another dog barking. Mostly, Shy just needs a lot of love and training to build his confidence. He is a super sweet softie who will make a great addition to his new family.
